What is Frame Relay?

Frame Relay service offers your business a reliable, cost effective way to provide a dedicated Internet connection for your Local Area Network (LAN) through the Verizon Frame Relay network in Vermont. Frame Relay is offered at speeds of 56 Kbps, 384 Kbps, and 1.544 Mbps. With Frame Relay, you get the stability and availability of a leased line network without paying the high, distance-based premiums generally associated with a private network.

Frame Relay gives you the ability to communicate over the Internet at high speeds. It is ideally suited for customers with networks that must use the Internet to share large files or use other bandwidth-intensive network services. Because Frame Relay establishes a permanent connection between two locations (such as you and GMA), the connection is ultra-reliable and operational 24 hours a day.

To begin, you will need to determine the speed of connection that will best serve your business and your budget. One of our Business Account Specialists can assist you with this planning.

Once this is determined, an order will need to be placed with Green Mountain Access for your Internet bandwidth and with Verizon for your Frame Relay circuit.

You will also need to purchase some additional hardware. A network router and CSU/DSU are both required to connect your LAN to your Frame Relay Circuit. Users on your LAN can simultaneously access the Internet through one shared connection.
