Month, May 2004
We
are making a special offer to our friends from
the north. We will accept the Canadian dollar at
par value for any day you stay during the month
of May 2004. At current exchange rates of 76
cents to a dollar, buck versus loonie, that's a
nice 25% discount from the already reasonable
rates we offer for that time of the year.
Why
are we making this offer? To be honest, we just
don't get enough guests from Canada, even though
we're just two hours from Montreal and a
reasonable drive from as far away as Toronto. The
American dollar has been too expensive compared
to its Canadian counterpart (even though it's
been improving of late) and that has no doubt
diminished the number of south-bound visitors.
We'd love to have you come visit us next May, a
time of the year when Vermont is green and
beautiful, and we have a little bit of extra
space at the Golden Lion.
So
what are you going to do when you get here? How
about hiking, biking, horse-back riding, soaring,
or fishing? Our favorites in the Valley are Moss
Glen Falls, just down the road, and the open-air
market in Waitsfield every Saturday from late
May. Many guests enjoy exploring the Golden
Lion's own property. The wooded spot down by the
river is perfect for a picnic and we even have
gold-panning equipment that children love to use.
Further
afield, you can tour the Ben and Jerry's ice
cream plant twenty minutes up the road, and it's
not much further to the Shelburne museum, an
estate of European dimensions with a beautiful
manor house and forty acres of grounds. Children
will love to tour its working farm and watch
cheese-making or take a hay ride.
Easy
day-trips from the Golden Lion include
Burlington, set on beautiful Lake Champlain, and
Montpelier, the smallest state capital in the
United States with its wonderful bookstores and
other shops.
We
hope you'll take the trip south next spring and
we'll do our best to make you feel welcome in our
inn. Our regular rooms next May are only $59
weekdays/$69 weekends. Canadian.
Please
mention this offer when you call or email for
reservations.
