The St. Andrew's Highland Dancers of Vermont (SAHDVT) is a nonprofit organization of volunteers promoting traditional Scottish Highland and National dance. Our primary purpose is to support Highland dancing throughout the state in any way we can. We provide opportunities for dancers and their instructors, and also seek to increase the visibility of Highland dancing in Vermont. Our organization does dance performances, conducts workshops, and sponsors a sanctioned dance competition each year during the Quechee Scottish Festival.
Dancers (as well as their parents or guardians), teachers, and all others interested in Highland dancing in Vermont.
Members are eligible to dance in our performances at various events (with free admission at events charging a fee), attend dance workshops and take medal tests at reduced prices, have fun at a dance recital, participate in activities for older and/or more experienced dancers, vote at the annual meeting, and participate in running our organization. An active membership assures that there will continue to be quality events, performances, the Quechee dance competitions, etc. available to Highland dancers in Vermont.
No. The St. Andrew's Society of Vermont is a separate organization dedicated to the perpetuation of Scottish culture and tradition. The Society sponsors the annual Quechee Scottish Festival, a Tartan Ball, Scottish genealogy discussion groups, and other activities. Members of the Society need to have Scottish roots. Our dancers are invited to perform at some of the Society's functions and it has provided financial support for some of our dance activities. Any dancers and their families with Scottish ancestry can join the Society.
No. While all dance instructors in Vermont are currently members of SAHDVT, it is up to each dancer to also join as an individual. None of your dance instruction fees go to us.
Your annual dues cover a portion of the costs for the programs we sponsor and running our organization. Dues are $20 single or $25 for family membership. A membership application is available for printing.
We welcome any volunteer time you can contribute to making our activities happen. The dancers are doing the hard work at practice and on the dance stage - you can have fun supporting their efforts!
